The Atlanta School of Sleep Medicine and Technology Now a Provider for MyCAA

Atlanta, GA (Vocus/PRWEB) November 10, 2010---The Atlanta School of Sleep Medicine and Technology recently gained approval as a provider for The Military Spouse Career Advancement Account (MyCAA) for their accredited A-STEP: Essentials of Sleep Technology course.

The 80-hour course is designed for individuals without experience who wish to enter the field of sleep technology. The A-STEP curriculum has been developed by the American Academy of Sleep Medicine as a comprehensive introduction to sleep technology for the novice technologist.

MyCAA

The MyCAA functions as a spousal tuition assistance resource extended by the Department of Defense’s Military OneSource program to military spouses. First launched in November 2007, MyCAA has financially assisted more than 1,000 military spouses pursuing Associate’s degrees, licenses or certifications. Acknowledging the heavy relocation rates for many military families, MyCAA offers up to $4000 per year to put toward education or training for jobs that allow for flexibility and are in demand throughout the country.

"It is exciting to be a part of such a beneficial program," said Gail Reid, program manager at the Atlanta School. "We have trained more than 6,000 sleep professionals and look forward to offering new educational opportunities to those eligible for MyCAA."

Recognizing the busy lives of military spouses, the first 24 hours of the course features online interactive modules that students can complete from the comfort of their own homes.

The seven day live portion of the course is held at the school in Atlanta, GA. Through a series of hands-on exercises, course faculty teach students how to prepare patients for sleep studies, acquire data and stage and score sleep studies.

"New sleep labs are being established on a consistent basis, and those labs need staff with a background in sleep medicine" said Dr. Russell Rosenberg, CEO of the Atlanta School, "Physician assistants, nurse practitioners, and sleep lab technologists are all in demand in sleep labs throughout the country"

The Atlanta School offers live and online courses for physicians, nurse practitioners, physician assistants, and sleep lab technologists. Designed with students' busy schedules in mind, live courses are usually offered on weekends and online courses allow for a student-controlled learning experience.
